Panasonic Donates Solar Lanterns to Remote Schools in Chiang Rai, Elevating Nighttime Living Conditions

The Panasonic Group in Thailand, through its "Panasonic Care" initiative, has donated 100 solar lanterns under the "Light Up the Future" project to Ban Mae Ta Maew School and Banpanghok School in Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province. The donation aims to address the lack of adequate lighting for nighttime activities and to mitigate health issues caused by inhaling smoke from kerosene lamps.

Mr. Hidekazu Ito, CEO of Panasonic Group in Thailand, said, "Panasonic is committed to conducting business that prioritizes sustainable health, safety, and comfort for individuals, society, and all life on Earth. Panasonic Holdings Corporation, Japan, has initiated the "Light Up the Future" project to donate solar lanterns, bringing light to over 760 million people living in off-grid areas without electricity across various countries. The initiative aims to enhance the quality of life in key areas such as education, health, and safety. Since its launch in 2013, more than 120,000 solar lanterns have been delivered to over 30 countries across Asia, Africa, and Latin America. In Thailand, the project began in 2015, providing 392 solar lanterns to communities in Omkoi District, Chiang Mai Province; Sangkhom District, Nong Khai Province; and Yaha and Kabang Districts in Yala Province.

This year, through the "Panasonic Cares" project, the Panasonic Group in Thailand continued its efforts by sending a team of executives and employees to areas still lacking proper lighting. In Mae Suai District, Chiang Rai Province, 50 solar lanterns were donated to teachers and students at Ban Mae Ta Maew School, and another 50 solar lanterns were given to Banpanghok School. The donation aims to support learning by providing children with the light to read, improving quality of life, and offering families greater convenience for their careers and safety at night. The solar lanterns, developed by Panasonic, the lightweight and portable solar lanterns provide and provide ample light, reducing the need for kerosene lamps that can be harmful to health.

To bring smiles, we also prepared lunch for the children and provided essential items, including sweaters, socks, and stationery, generously donated by our employees. These items were delivered to the children during the visit.
